How to Change a Flat Tire Service in Sheridan WY
How to Change a Flat Tire in Sheridan, WY
If you’ve always wanted to learn how to change a flat tire, but have never taken the time to understand the basic steps, then this guide is for you! After you’ve finished reading through the points below courtesy of our Sheridan Motors GMC staff, you’ll have the ability to conduct your own tire change properly!
Required Tools
Before you can change a flat tire, you’ll want to get your hands on the following pieces of equipment. A lug wrench, a wheel wedge, a jack, a tire pressure gauge, a portable tire inflation device, and of course, a spare tire. Once you have these items in your possession, you’ll be prepared to conduct the most effective tire change possible. Also keep in mind that it’s always a good idea to keep these vehicles stored inside your GMC model. That way, you never have to worry about not having access to them should you ever have a mishap on the road.
Removing the Flat Tire
If you run over a nail or other piece of debris that punctures one of your car’s tires while driving to Kendrick Park, then you’ll want to find a suitable location to safely handle the tire change. Once you're parked, you can turn on your car’s hazard lights and get to work. Begin by using the lug wrench to undo the lug nuts on the flat tire, but don’t unscrew them all the way. You should unscrew them only halfway first and then place the jack underneath your car where the flat tire is located. By using the jack to lift this side of your vehicle off the ground, you can then safely unscrew the lug nuts and remove the tire. And don’t worry about figuring out what to do with the flat tire, as our Service Department team can dispose of it properly when you visit our location!
Installing the Spare Tire
Once you have your spare tire ready to go, you can align it with the wheel hub so that you can see the bolts through the holes. Next, take each of the lug nuts that you removed before and place them back into their respective spots on the spare tire. Similarly to before, you’ll want to screw them in only partially before lowering the car back to the ground with the jack. You can then remove the jack and finish tightening the lug nuts the rest of the way. Before you set off down I-90 to come get a new tire installed at our location in Sheridan, you should use your tire pressure gauge to ensure the spare tire has enough air. Should it not, then you fill it to the appropriate levels with the portable tire inflation device before you set out for our dealership!
